Intuition Isn’t Always Loud—Sometimes It Smells Like Lavender
How to Trust Your Intuition (Even When It’s Quiet)
You know that old idea that intuition has to come with a bang—a loud, undeniable YES that hits you like lightning? Not always true.
Sometimes, intuition smells like lavender. It feels like straw beneath your fingertips. It sounds like a soft gong in the distance.
Sometimes, it whispers.
What If Your Intuition Doesn’t Speak Loudly?
In a recent coaching session, my client sat in her chair, one hand over her chest, tuning into the part of her body where intuition lives. As she dropped in, images emerged: the scent of lavender. The feel of straw and bamboo. A calming gong sound. And a vision of an older, elegant version of herself—calm, grounded, sipping tea like a wise fairy godmother.
When asked what this version of her wanted her to know, the answer was simple: “You have everything you need.”
Chills, right?
This is what intuition can look like—when we slow down enough to hear it. It doesn’t always shout. In fact, the body often speaks in symbols, smells, textures, and half-sentences that only make sense if we pause long enough to feel them.
Why Somatic Wisdom Matters
This client came to me wanting to trust herself more—especially in her money life and her relationship. She also shared that her digestion had been off lately, and her gut—her literal and energetic gut—felt confused.
We can’t separate our bodies from our choices. When we ignore the signs (tension, unease, tightness, confusion), we override deep knowing. But when we pause? We reconnect.
And when we reconnect, we remember: intuition is a body-based experience, not a purely mental one.
3 Ways to Deepen Trust in Your Intuition
You don’t need to be on a yoga mat in some far away land to listen deeply. Here are some simple, powerful ways to begin tuning in:
1. Create a Quiet Ritual
Light a candle. Place a hand on your chest or belly. Ask, “What do I need right now?” and simply listen. Even two minutes counts.
2. Use Your Senses
Intuition often arrives through the senses. Notice: What does a YES feel like in your body? What does a NO feel like? (Hint: It might not be words—it might be a scent, a color, a texture.)
3. Start an Intuition Journal
Keep a notebook just for intuitive nudges. Ask one question a day—“What’s true for me today?”—and record any images, sensations, words, or dreams that arise. The point is not to make perfect sense. The point is to track your own symbols and inner voice.
You Can Trust Yourself
If you’re trying to make a decision in your work, relationship, or money life… the answer may not come as a roar.
It might come as an image of your future self with long gray hair, sipping tea, smiling calmly.
It might come through your senses.
It might come when you finally get quiet.
And when it does? You’ll know. Even if it doesn’t make sense to anyone else.
