Why Prioritizing Health in 2025 is My Smartest Money Move Yet

I've been in a deep hibernation these past months and it's been uncomfortable, scary, restful, and quiet. I'm just now resurfacing and it feels so good! As these days keep light longer, I feel my energy turning up.

To start, 2024 was one of the hardest years of my young 54-year old life. 

Here's a very brief snapshot of what I mean.

In April of last year I totaled my car on the weekend of my 54th Menopause - Birthday Celebration Weekend. The party was lovely but I spent most of the weekend out of my body and watching it all happen as I floated above. Eesh.

In June/July/August I experienced a wave of depression that I haven't felt since my early 20's.

On September 27th, the beautiful mountains of Western North Carolina experienced a 1/1000 year hurricane event called Helene. This singular event totally transformed my world, along with so many other souls, here in my small town of Asheville. 

In November, we experienced an election in this country like no other. The result was one that added to the trauma that I was already experiencing due to Helene. It felt like I had been gut punched for a second time in only two short months. 

Let me just say that as I did my best to cope with all of these events through therapy, sitting on my deck watching nature, volunteering, supporting neighbors, drinking copious amounts of wine, loving on my pup, and receiving the support of local friends and friends at a distance…nothing can ever prepare you for when lose total control of everything around you.

But wait, there was one last little experience that the natural world said I needed to experience and that was the onset of the MenoBelly!!!! If you're not of an age where Menopause Belly has yet to expose itself to you…let me just say…I hope it never does…and yet the statistics say it most likely will at some point. Hold on for the ride.

Ugh monster. By the time December 31st rolled around, I was fully ready to put 2024 in my rear view mirror. I raised a large glass of champagne and said sayonara!!!

Welcome to 2025. I was ready to start making some shifts. For me, that shift was to prioritize my health above all else. 

Let me start by being transparent about why I made this shift. When I lose my health, my whole life suffers. And my whole life was suffering in 2024. 

A big change needed to happen and I doubled down on creating a solid foundation of health that has now jump started the whole way I see, act and think. 

As my health floundered, I felt this most acutely in how my gut and digestive system worked, my brain health, my skin, and my energy levels. 

In a large nutshell…here's what I did. 

I practiced Dry January.

I created a meal plan made up of mostly lean proteins and vegetables. I cut out sugar and most starchy carbohydrates.

I participated in a 31-Day Yoga Challenge and ended up doing 25 days of yoga!! Woohoo!

I walked daily for 30 minutes and decided to add a 12 pound weighted vest to add more resistance and build muscle. Woop…that kept me huffing and puffing up my hills!

I started a 2-day a week resistance training workout that I do from my home following Holly Rilinger and her wonderful videos.

I added daily dry skin brushing to my bathing routine.

I incorporated a gua sha massage into my facial routine. I love it and my face is glowing!

I began following the fabulous Dr. Mary Claire Haver so I could keep up-to-date on all things menopausal. She's simply fabulous!

I visited with my hormone doc and we tweaked my hormones to support my menobelly phase.

I added supplements to my diet to support my digestive health and I'm a huge fan of having a daily multivitamin, vitamin D3+K2 supplement, and 5mg of creatine for brain and muscle health. 

For my mental health, I continued going twice a month to see my somatic therapist.

And finally, I read the romantasy book…Onyx Storm!!! Yeah baby! I love the Empyrean Series.

Oh, and I've been quietly letting my freak flag fly while teaching myself all about cryptocurrency from my favorite mentor, Raoul Pal. I'm studying AI and learning how to make ChatGPT work for me so I can get more done in less time and work smarter, not harder.

After months of taking time to heal, I can finally say that my mind, my spirit, and my body are feeling more online than they have felt in a year. I feel like ME again. My energy is good. My focus is back. My sleep is solid. My brain is lit up and online. My belly is healing. I can feel my light starting to shine again and that means the world to me. 

And what I know for sure is that when I make my health my Number 1 priority, my income feels the same boost! Health is to money as exercise is to a strong body. When you feed one, the other follows.

So, as this was all happening, I started noticing that I was unintentionally leaving the land of social media. I've never loved social media but I've always been able to find my way through it and navigate it in a way that I could handle. 

But to be honest, through Helene and all of the news showing the devastation of our area, I just couldn't stomach watching anymore. The real-life stories of loss were heart breaking. 

Anytime I scrolled IG or FB, I found myself viscerally 'Icked out'. And yes, that is not a typo. I felt ICKED OUT! I felt angry…alot. I felt sad…all of the time. I felt afraid…most days. And to be honest, I was genuinely just sick to death of scrolling through the same ole stuff day after day.  

It wasn't until the week of Inauguration in January that I finally deleted IG and FB off of my phone to take a real break. And I haven't looked back.

Which brings me to today and why I felt scared, nervous, and also excited to share what’s been happening with me.

In my opinion, and maybe some of yours, our world is ON FIRE. The shifts that have happened in our political world over the past 5 weeks have us all scrambling in fear, uncertainty, and confusion. Including myself.

Helene taught me many things and the biggest thing was how to approach one day at a time when you feel you've lost control over your basic day-to-day living experience. 

On an optimistic note, I didn't know my mantra back then, “One moment. One day.” would prove so important to practice over these past 5 weeks.

I am no longer interested in doing things the way I once did in my business. 

Here is my new definition of success:

“To have mental and physical space while working with my natural gifts that incorporate the lessons of Creator Types, Human Design, and Sacred Money Archetypes, that allow me to sustainably stay in love with my life and business. I desire to stay connected to my heart in a way that lets me prioritize PLAY, the sharing of meaningful offers and messages, work 20-hours a week, be in nature, and make business decisions that are good for my mental and emotional well being.” Aho!

I am only interested in delivering exactly what my audience NEEDS and serves their highest purpose.

As a women’s money coach, I realized that prioritizing health in 2025 was the smartest financial decision I could make. Women entrepreneurs often neglect their financial wellness, but true success comes when we align money mindset with self-care.

TL:DR

2024 was a super difficult year for me. This caused me to go into a deep hibernation mode over the past several months. In January, I decided to reclaim my health and build a strong foundation that I could use to rebuild my life, business, and focus on what truly matters. I'm mostly off of social media now and am implementing new ways to build my brand.
